Here are some tidbits about me. Some you may know, and some you may have no clue about. I certainly hope I have some surprises in here for you, along with some laughs and chuckles.
Yes I realize I’m probably opening up myself for some fun jabs from readers. So grab a cup of coffee or tea and feel free to poke fun at me. Brené Brown would be proud that I'm practicing vulnerability. Then again, I'm pretty much an open book.
2. I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. We lived there for about five years before we moved to Minot North Dakota and I haven’t been back since. My sisters and I were so naïve that we thought the drifts of snow were actually white sand. Boy were we wrong. Lol.
3. I have two older half-sisters and one younger sister that all keep me in line. Especially my younger sister Erica. She can be brutally honest at times… ok all the time.
4. When we were in Hawaii I thought my mom was the coolest after she climbed the coconut tree in front of our house with a machete in her teeth to knock down some fresh coconuts. To me she was part super-hero, part pirate and I wanted to be fearless like her when I grew up.
5. I was born and raised in a multicultural household to a Filipino mom and Caucasian-American dad. Growing up I felt exotic in comparison to some of my friends, however I also felt like a bit of a pinay-poser since I couldn’t speak or understand Tagalog. Learning the language is still on my list of things to do in life.
6. From the time I was about seven years old I was obsessed with kung fu movies and Martial Arts of all kinds. I loved how some of the women in the movies would act all dainty one minute and then totally kick butt the next. So I would check out any books in the library about martial arts and would teach myself or mimic the images I saw.
7. When I was nine, my best friend her mom and her sister all died tragically in a plane crash. Before their trip, she actually invited me to go with them but we ended up moving. If it wasn’t for the move, I would have died in that same crash.
8. When I was young, my sister Michelle and I were playing ‘House Burgler’, where Michelle was the burgler and our room was the ‘house’. I waited near our bedroom door and she s-l-o-w-l-y crept up the wooden stairs to come and get me. More and more my adrenaline got going and when she came in to the room I clonked her on the head with a wooden figurine we had in our room. I’m surprised I didn’t give her a concussion and I still feel horrible about it.
9. I used to share a room with my older half-sisters Michelle and Debbie. I even shared a bed with my sister Michelle since we were the smallest and I always made her take the side closest to the windows and door, so I could have the side against the wall because if Aliens came to abduct us they would get her first. I blame it on Unsolved Mysteries.
10. My first paranormal experience I remember, was seeing a shadow figure that I thought my sisters could see, and when I asked if they were seeing him they freaked out and left me in the room by myself. Since then I was afraid to see ghosts or apparitions, and had many sleepless nights.
11. I love music and singing in my car at the top of my lungs. If someone’s in the car with me, their poor soul is subjected to it. If one of my fave songs comes on, I’ll even tell them to hold the conversation until it’s done.
12. Instead of ten fingers and toes, I have about seven and a half fingers and about eight toes after being born with Amniotic Band Syndrome, which caused the amputations on my left hand and both feet. I used to be horrifically shy because of it, but now I totally love my stubs and crack jokes about them. In fact, my identical stubby toes are my favorite trait because the mathematical odds of that happening naturally have to be near impossible.
13. I’m a bit of geek and I enjoy playing video games with my hubby, even though we have completely different playing styles.
14. My husband and I met through a social networking site called Tickle in 2004 which sucked us in with their IQ quiz and other fun quizzes. At that time in our lives we weren’t looking for relationships yet he kept feeling drawn to me and would send me messages about how much he felt we had in common. I pretty much told him to buzz off every time until he sent me a long e-mail listing off-the-wall things about himself like how he loved Transformers as a child and watched “Big Trouble in Little China” more times than he could count. Those are just two examples of specific things he mentioned; two that I happened to be totally obsessed with when I was younger. My family still cracks jokes about how much I loved Transformers over Barbies. We communicated a few times before we met, and I had to tell him he was right that we DID have a lot [freakishly] in common. The moment I saw him when we met at a bookstore I literally heard “There you are!” clairaudiently. I knew I was done-for.
15. Countries I would LOVE to visit (in no particular order): Ireland, Philippines, and India. I’ll start off with those and then add more. Lol.
16. After some time being engaged, my husband and I planned our wedding in a week’s time and got married that same weekend. We had all kinds of wonderful help from people to get it done and it was amazing.
17. My husband and I love Polaroid cameras and hit local thrift shops to hunt down cameras. I also love old 35mm slides.
18. There are a few tattoos I want to get. A lotus flower on the inside of a wrist and the “Om” symbol on the inside of the other wrist so that my intention is completed when I put my hands in a prayer position. I’d like them in a color that is more subtle since I want them for personal reasons. A third tattoo is the calligraphic word for “love” in Arabic. Not sure where I want that yet.
19. I used to have a pet Ferret names Buddha and he loved stealing people’s shoes and would hide them under my bed.
20. My current goals: I’m currently working on writing a metaphysical book about reincarnation (Stay tuned), working on getting certified in hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and planning more metaphysical classes to teach locally and possibly online.
I hope you enjoyed and learned a thing or two about me, and at least had a laugh or two. So what would you like to know about me? Feel free to ask away!
Sincerely,
-T Romana Powers
